June Cleavers Pineapple Juice Recipe

I thought this was a catchy little title-- June Cleavers is the famous mother of 'Beaver Cleaver' of the 50s TV show, Leave it to Beaver'.

It so happens that CLEAVERS are a nutritious wild edible.  The cleavers in my yard grow all around my compost bin and in various locations in my garden beds.  I jokingly called it "Velcro Weed" because the pinwheel leaves are fairly adhesive (with no goo about them) and it produces burrs that come in on the dog and your children's socks.

As a juice or smoothie ingredient, the cleavers have a fresh, but neutral flavour.  They colour the drink with the palest of fresh greens.  USE ONLY THE FRESHEST LEAF TIPS (don't worry about running out, if you have them in your yard you will have lots for juice.

JUNE CLEAVERS - PINEAPPLE JUICE INGREDIENTS:

Fresh Pineapple Chunks
Fresh Cleavers
Fresh Cold Water
Sweetener if desired

Mix together the quantities that fit for you-- I would start with a small handful of Cleavers and maybe a 1/2 C. of pineapple with about a 1/2 C. of water per serving.  Whirl up.  Strain through a juicer bag and enjoy!

How To Make Nut Mylk (Dairy-free, Sugar-free, Vegan, Egg-free, Cholestrerol-free)

I LOVE Nut Mylks, and not just because I am allergic to cow's milk (which I am), but because they have subtleties of flavour and richness that lend themselves to a variety of conventional 'milk' recipes.  The bonus for me is that there is no mucous-y side effects common to dairy products (you know it's true-- the itchy nose, the gluey feeling in the throat, the sour breath, etc.) and no tummy upsets or belching (unless you are allergic to nuts, in which case you had better steer clear).  Here is how I make a delightful Almond Nut Mylk .  For Almond-Brasil Nut Mylk, follow the same protocol, but add in soaked Brasil Nuts.  If you soak about 3/4 C. Almonds and 1/4 C. Brasil Nuts overnight, you should end up with about 1 1/2 C. of Nuts, total.  Please experiment with how "nutty" you like your mylk... some people only use a few almonds and 1 or 2 brasil nuts for a much more economical but just as tasty drink!

  • Soak the Almonds and the Brasil Nuts in separate containers, preferably in filtered water, overnight or at least 6 hours during the day.

  • 2. Pop the skins off the almond.  Some will require more like a peel... it is a fairly long tedious job but results in a lustrous white fluid that you don't get if you grind up all of the skins.  You can watch TV or read your email while doing this.  It's that kind of job.  DON'T BOTHER trying to peel the Brasil Nuts; it doesn't happen.  There are not many of them.  You will end up with 1 1/2 C. of peeled almonds and brasil nuts.

    3. Put skinned nuts into a clean bowl and cover with water and about 3 T. Apple Cider Vinegar.  Alternately, you could put nuts into a mesh collander and pour hot water over them for a couple of minutes.  These measures help to prevent mold, fungus, etc. (something you don't want in your Nut Mylk).  Rinse off the ACV.  (If desired, you can dry off the almonds and brasil nuts and dehydrate at 105 degrees F. until dried completely, and make a sort of 'powdered almond milk' in your high power blender, but this is a nice but not-necessary step).

    4. Add 1 1/2 C. nuts and 4 C. filtered Water to the Blender Carafe.

    5. Blend the nuts and the water until homogenous as possible... if using a Vitamix, start on low and flip into high to finish.  If using a regular blender, it might help to do the blending beginning with pulsing until nuts are broken down.  The soaked nuts are easier to blend than the hard nuts.

    6. Remove the blender carafe and attach the Juicerless Bag to the top, holding loop in place invert the blender over a mixing bowl (5 Cups).

The pulp is a lovely fine textured lump that can be used for raw vegan pates, dehydrated cookies, and other recipes.

Juicerless Recipe for Canteloupe Milk (for Swollen Lymph Nodes)

Big juicy cantaloupe - image from Pixabay

Maybe someone told you that a big, juicy Cantaloupe is the perfect breakfast fruit because the flesh contains so many nutrients-- you can get a good whack of your Vitamin A and Beta-carotene needs met just with this morning Cantaloupe. BUT, did you know that you could also take down the swelling of your lymph nodes (think of around your neck, your ankles...)**  I picked up this information from raw foodist, Tera Warner in a newsletter and think that it is worthy of spreading!

So here is what you do:
    1. Soak the whole cantaloupe in a large bowl of pure water and Apple Cider Vinegar for about 15 minutes or longer.
    2.  Rinse.
    3.  Dry off and cut with a clean knife.
    4.  Scoop out the seeds and put them into your blender along with about 3 to 4 cups of water; .
    5. Process well.
    6.  Pour the contents of the blender into your nut milk bag or strainer and strain into pitcher.
    7. Return the fluid to the blender. Scoop up some fresh cantaloupe fruit into the blender as well.
    8. Whirl up!
    9.  Drink!

Fresh Raw Veggie Juicerless Juice for Carpal Tunnel

*sorry that the first part of this video is cut off... part of the editorial learning curve!
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a sometimes excruciatingly painful "entrapment" of nerves in the wrists, generally occurring in people who spend a lot of time doing repetitive movements that involve the hands and wrists (such as computer keyboardists, knitters, persons doing line work in electronics factories), but there is a large genetic component involved in who gets CTS as well.  If you are experiencing numbness and pain in your fingers and wrist, it is a good idea to get it checked out.

While it is unlikely that a change of diet to include a more nutritionally balanced, less acidic regimen will result in a "cure" for CTS, it will certainly assist in an increased level of wellness you experience along with speedier healing if combined with other good lifestyle choices (sometimes quitting your job).  Talk to your professional health care provider.

The recipe for the Garden Special Juice in Cherie Colbom's book is altogether a most delicious and refreshing juice to include in anyone's diet.  The fact that it is made up of whole foods packed with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes really helps, and if you further use only organic veggies, you will avoid a lot of toxins that your body will not have to get rid of to do the job it wants to do in healing you.

Combine the following in your blender carafe:
    ~5 carrots, peeled and chopped
~1 small yellow or red bell pepper, chopped, seeded
~ 2 stalks celery, cut up
    ~3 florets of broccoli
    ~1 clove garlic
    Optional: small handful hulled hempseed

Blend up and strain with your Nut Mylk Bag... Voila!! Yummy yummy and oh-so-good for you!
